The First Southeastern Workshop on Environmental Protection at Railways

“Serbian Railways” and International Union of Railways are organizing on 29 September and on Friday, 30 September, the First Southeastern Workshop on Environmental Protection at Railways in Belgrade.

Under the patronage of the Ministry of Environment, Physical Planning and Mining, the first workshop of this kind in railway managements of Southeastern Europe is being organized by Center for Sustainable Development of Serbian railways and Section for Sustainable Development of UIC.

The workshop will take place in big meeting room of “Serbian Railways” (1st floor, Nemanjina 6 Street, in Belgrade) and it will be opened by Prof. Dr. Dusko Bajin, Deputy Director General for Strategy and Development of “Serbian Railways” on Thursday, 29 September, at 9.30am.

The reunion will last for two days and during that time Southeastern railway experts will present practical solutions for important issues in the field of environmental protection, share experiences and form an expert network in this region.

The main topics will be environmental protection, energy efficiency and legal support in this field at railways.

The participation in the first workshop on environmental protection in Southeastern Europe have confirmed almost 20 experts so far from Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Monte Negro and Republika Srpska, and Mr. Alex Veitch, Head of Sustainable Development at UIC, will talk about the program of sustainable development of UIC.

Bearing in mind the importance of this event for railways of Southeastern Europe, popular environmental protection issue, and the fact that this traffic system is way above other forms of transportations due to its environmental advantages and international standards, we hope that it will draw appropriate media attention.
