The Czech Republic ready to invest in and build Corridor 10

– The Czech Republic and its economy are interested to participate in the construction of the railway Corridor 10 through Serbia. The Czech partners are ready to grant a loan to Serbian railways in the amount of EUR= 300 million for the modernization of the Corridor 10. If the credit realization occurred, Serbian railways would modernize three sections thanks to these assets on the Corridor 10, as follows: Beograd-Kovačevac- (Mladenovac), Rakovica- Jajinci- Mala Krsna- Velika Plana and Niš-Ristovac-Preševo-Macedonian border. Both parties confirmed their business preference by signing the appropriate Protocol.

This is the result of consultant meetings held by the representatives of the Serbian Railways and the consortium of Czech companies, set up with a view to realization of the investment projects on the Corridor 10. Apart from Serbian Railways delegation, the representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Finance and Economy and Regional Development participated as well, whereas the delegation of the Czech Republic was composed of the representatives of the economic companies, Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Embassies in Belgrade.

The Serbian Railways representatives talked to Czech businessmen about the possibilities for the financing of this project, technical requests and needs, the terms as well as the legislation which regulates this field. The Czech businessmen were particularly interested in the condition of technical documentation for the construction of the Corridor 10 as well as the feasibility studies findings. The representatives of our delegation pointed out the great national strategic interest in order to modernize Corridor 10 and made the Czech partners familiar with the legislation which regulates this field in our countries.

In case the agreements and the appropriate decisions are made, the loan granted by the Czech Republic could be actually realized in 2010.

“Serbian Railways” in the previous period had very successful collaboration with the Czech businessmen. Thus, the companies from this country placed 30 new switch mechanisms on the tracks between Čortanovci and Petrovaradin, as well as five new level crossings (one of which is placed as a donation) on our lines and forwarded them to Serbian railways 14 new and three second hand shunting locomotives, and after the tender realization, the delivery of one hundred switch mechanisms from the Czech Republic will be in progress.
