“Serbian Railways” signed contracts worth eur 23.4 million for modernization of Batajnica-Golubinci line

“Serbian Railways” have signed today the contracts for civil works and supply of materials and equipment for reconstruction and modernization of Batajnica-Golubinci section of Belgrade-Sid-State border (CRO) line on Corridor X.

The total value of the contracts signed today amounts to around EUR 23.4 million, and the implementation of this project is financed by the European Investment Bank within the scope of Railway Rehabilitation Project II.

On behalf of PE “Serbian Railways”, the contracts were signed by Deputy Director General, Mr. Miroljub Jevtic, PhD. Serbian Railways have entered into contract with the “PORR Technobau und Umwelt Aktiengesellschaft” Company from Austria for civil works amounting to around EUR 19.4 million, as well as with “Siemens” Belgrade, “Jugotrade” Belgrade and “Dalekovod” Zagreb, for supply of materials and equipment, in total value of around EUR 4 million.

– Hereby all works, materials and equipment are contracted which are required for successful implementation of the project for modernization of Batajnica-Golubinci line. European Investment Bank has granted to “Serbian Railways” a loan amounting to EUR 80 million for modernization of Corridor X within the scope of Railway Rehabilitation Project II. These funds are planned to cover the complete overhaul of 93 kilometers of line on Corridor X, respectively on Cele Kula-Stanicenje section of Nis-Dimitrovgrad line, Batajnica-Golubinci section between Belgrade and Sid, and Gilje-Cuprija-Paracin section on Belgrade-Nis line – stated Miroljub Jevtic, PhD, and reminded that this was the second loan granted by this international financial institution during the previous four years.

Dejan Lasica, Assistant Minister for railway transport within the Ministry of Infrastructure, stated that the Government of the Republic of Serbia plans to provide from the budget and international loans in the forthcoming four years for modernization of rail Corridor X through our country the amount of around EUR 1.7 billion, and the total amount to be invested amounts to around EUR 4 billions. He announced that modernization of Corridor X envisages double-track along all 760 kilometers of this international main line, thereof complete electrification and modern signaling systems.

– In the upcoming eight years, Serbian Railways shall, with the invested funds, significantly improve the traffic efficiency and quality of offer – announced Lasica.
“Serbian Railways” have already, on occasion of Railway Men Day – September 15 this year, signed with “Siemens” and “Telefonkabl” companies from Belgrade, contracts worth around EUR 5.7 million for supply of equipment and electric-engineering works for Batajnica-Golubinci section, which are also funded from the same loan of European Investment Bank within the scope of Railway Rehabilitation Project II.

The implementation of the project for reconstruction and modernization of Batajnica-Golubinci section has officially started on October 13, and works are envisaged to be finalized in 210 days, i.e. in May 2009, if there should be no major natural hazards during the winter. The modernization of Batajnica-Golubinci section, in which around EUR 33 million shall be invested, shall enable the speed on this line of 160 km/h.
