“Scientific-expert railway conference “Zelkon” is unique event in the country and in this part of Europe. It represents the connection between scientific and expert domains, and unique opportunity to find new solutions, which would improve railway traffic in the region, through the exchange of experiences”, said the Assistant Minister of Capital Investment Dejan Lasica, welcoming participants and guests of the 12th Railway Conference “Zelkon”, opened today in Nis.

According to his words, our final goal is the integration in transport system of European Union. Currently we have the reconciliation and application of legal frames. The investments in Serbian railways are becoming more important, particularly regarding infrastructure, Corridor 10, and the line Belgrade-Bar.

“Serbian Railways started improving service quality on our lines, which will certainly be continued in the future”, stated Lasica.

As Dusan Stamenkovic, the President of Organization Board stated, during the conference 97 scientific and expert projects will be presented by 174 authors from eight countries. Also, 18 companies from five countries will present their programs. Students from Belgrade and Nis Universities will introduce the best works, within the special program “Young and future of the railways”.

Conference participants were welcomed by Srdjan Spasojevic, Director of Railway Headquarters, Vladimir Djokic, City Manager and Pera Milovanovic, Director of MIN and the President of Nis Chamber of Commerce.

During the first day of the conference, the greatest interest was shown for the works and documents regarding railway privatization, restructuring of “Serbian Railways” and harmonization of the railway law as an integration process, as well as the lecture of Kenneth Mark, American expert.

The conference was organized by the University of Nis, under the patronage of Republic Ministry of Science, “Serbian Railways” and MIN.
