Plans achieved – results improved

During 2007 we achieved all the plans and attained the results better than the last year – said Milanko Sarancic, Director General of “Serbian Railways” on the occasion of traditional New Year Press Conference, held in Belgrade, on December 25.

According to his words, with total transport income of 10,6 billion Dinars, for the third time “Serbian Railways” made the profit higher than state subsidies.

In 2007 “Serbian Railways” have transported 15,1 million tones of goods, which is 6,6 percent more than in 2006. Comparing to the last year, freight transport was increased for 6,3 percent in domestic and 9,4 percent in international service. Greatest increase was recorded in transit transport, with the income of 3,5 billion Dinars, which is 8,5 percent more than in 2006. Transport incomes were 2,5 times higher than four years ago, and it constantly grows – specified Sarancic.

He emphasized that, on account of the results achieved in international, particularly transit freight transport, “Serbian Railways” became one of the greatest transport enterprises in Serbia, regarding foreign currency incomes, amounting nearly 58 million EUR.

We received the information from international railway bank “Eurofima” that they have approved us a loan of 60 million Swiss Franks (approximately 37 million Euro) for rolling stock modernization. The loan would become operative in 2008, enabling the provision of multi-system locomotives.

– Previous cooperation with Serbian Government was very satisfying, particularly the relation with the Ministry of Infrastructure. The Government is already defining strategic goal, showing their willingness to transfer transport to the railways.
