Representatives of German State Railways visited “Serbian Railways” on October 15th and talked with “Serbian Railways” management about improving of cooperation between these two railways that have such a long tradition of friendly relation.

“Serbian Railways” representatives introduced to German colleagues their plans on reconstruction, improvement and development of existing railway infrastructure and rolling stock, as well as future challenges regarding these issues.

“Serbian Railways” are in an intensive process of restructuring. We are fulfilling the preconditions so that we could meet requirements of the Government and European Union. Infrastructure modernization process has been started and we have great number of construction sites, and two new projects regarding construction works on Belgrade railway junction are expected to be started by the end of the year. Reconstruction of railway tracks is to be started next year as well as construction works on 120 km of our railway network. Funds for construction works planed for the period between 2015 and 2017 have been already secured. One of the major problems we are facing is related to time necessary for preparation and realization of the projects and there is room for improving efficiency”- said executive director Predrag Janković.

German party pointed out special importance for strengthening cooperation between German and Serbian Railways, and European railways in general. German State Railways representatives emphasized value of exchanging experiences in that regard and they made clear that they want to give support to Serbian Railways in this delicate moment.

The joint assessment is that the completion of works on Corridor X and raising the infrastructure quality level are of vital importance to both sides. Great potential of this transport route is reflected in connecting Central Europe and Turkey, which is a chance that both railways have to seize.
